SPVA-ES-Based Standalone Microgrid with Power Flow Management and Power Quality Improvements

This paper presents a solar photovoltaic array (SPVA)- energy storage (ES) based standalone microgrid, which operates in two modes, voltage control (VC) and current control (CC) modes. The SPVA is connected at the DC-link of the primary voltage source converter (VSC1) to obtain peak power in a cost-effective and proficient single-stage configuration using a distinct perturb and observe (P&O) maximum power point (MPP) tracking technique. The bidirectional converter is linked through the battery, which controls the charging/discharging current of the battery and the DC-link of secondary VSC2. The total harmonics distortion (THD) of the load voltage is in accordance with the IEEE-519 standard. The system performances are found satisfactory in both steady-state and dynamic scenarios, such as solar insolation change and load unbalance, and these are validated in MATLAB/Simulink.
