Wind Energy Conversion Systems and Technologies: A Summary of the Current State of the Art

The purpose of this article is to differentiate between the numerous electrical devices typically used in WECS by analyzing their advantages and disadvantages. Wind turbine types, operating speeds, power output, and rotor diameters are discussed, as are the various varieties of WECS. Additionally, a variety of families of doubly fed induction generators (DFIG) are introduced, with a focus on recent developments in the analysis of induction generators for capturing high energy and producing power on a megawatt scale. Additionally, a high-level overview of DFIG control systems is provided, tailoring the details to the specific machine sizes under consideration. Issues with the grid and instability are discussed, along with their origins, outcomes, and any recommendations for improving the dynamic of the machines involved. Finally, we talk about the upgraded DFIG designs, which are promising technology for future wind farms.
