Modified Cuk Converter With Bird Swarm Optimized PI Controller For Microgrid System

In this research, a Hybrid Renewable Energy System (HRES), specifically intended for a microgrid, is presented to lessen the substantial reliance of RE supplies on changes in atmospheric conditions. The entire globe is currently facing one of its most serious problems due to the effects of global warming and environmental degradation. Switching to RES, such as solar and wind, reduces emissions of carbon and helps to preventing the weather changing condition. As a way to provide stability over the intermittent and unreliable nature of both Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) and PV, a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) is integrated into the microgrid to ensure a steady and continuous supply of power. The Modified Cuk converter is designed to convert the PV output voltage to the desired level and it offers the outstanding effectiveness and high gain voltage. Further improvement of the converter working operation is achieved by using Bird Swarm Algorithm Proportional Integral (BSA-PI). Using a PWM rectifier operated by a PI controller, the AC output from a WECS constructed with a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG) is converted to DC output. A battery converter with bidirectional power flow capabilities is successfully used to charge and discharge the battery. A PI controller is used to operate the battery converter and manage the battery's State of Charge (SOC). The 3ϕ Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) is used to convert steady DC to AC voltage, and the LC filter is used to reduce harmonics. PI controller is also used to effectively synchronize the grid voltage. MATLAB platform is employed to validate the efficacy of proposed system.
