A Co-ordinated Dual Hydro and Steam GPSS Damping Action For Random Renewable and PEV Penetrations

In this work modified hydro and steam governors are coordinately controlled to impart damping torque for electro-mechanical power oscillations resulting from variation in renewable penetrations. A dual governor power system stabilizer (GPSS) control action has been implemented to mitigate power system oscillations. In the dual controlled action both real power and speed fluctuation are taken into account, which are local and remote signals respectively. The hydro and steam governors are coordinately controlled in the proposed control action. To optimize the gains of control action a modified version of DE has been implemented with multi-objective functions. In this modified differential evolution (MDE) the crossover and local adaption technique has been improved and it provides good balance between exploration and extraction power. The experimentation conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed GPSS action consists of random penetrations of solar, wind sources along with variable plug-in electric vehicle (PEV). Time domain simulations has been implemented to justify the efficacy of GPSS actions with eigen distribution analysis.
