Simutaneous Reductions of Cross-Polarization and Mutual Coupling of Microstrip Antenna Array With Combined Defected Ground Structures

In this paper, a novel defected ground structure (DGS) scheme located underneath the patch is proposed to reduce cross-polarization. A simple schematic analysis and the design guidelines are presented. A decoupling scheme combined with the proposed DGS is applied to an E-plane linear four-element array to verify the effectiveness of the methodology. Through the experimental verification of the prototype, the cross-polarization and coupling of the microstrip array are effectively reduced.
