Suitability assessment of wave energy supply in China’s offshore shipping based on GIS and multicriteria evaluation factors

Based on the natural data of wave height and period in the range of $0 \sim 45^{\circ}\mathrm{N}$ and $100 \sim 135^{\circ}\mathrm{E}$, and considering social factors such as water depth, offshore distance, distance from port, and protected area, we propose a wave energy resource assessment model based on geographic information system (GIS) and multi-criteria evaluation factors. This model aims to assess the suitability of wave energy supply in China’s offshore shipping. The results indicate that there are certain areas that are most suitable for wave energy production.
