Analysing the Mental Workload of Ship Navigators during Emergencies Based on Physiological Detection Methods

This paper aims to investigate the characteristics of psychological stress of ship navigators during emergency at sea using physiological detection methods. By collecting the electrocardiogram and skin conductance signals of ship navigators, the changes in psychological stress under different task durations and types were analyzed. The experimental results showed that the psychological stress of ship navigators significantly increased during unexpected events at sea, and both electrocardiogram and skin conductance signals could reflect this change. Compared with electrocardiogram signals, skin conductance signals were more sensitive and accurate, and could more quickly reflect changes in psychological stress. However, in long-term tasks, electrocardiogram signals performed more stably. The results of this study are of great significance for improving the operational safety of ship navigators at sea and thus reducing the occurrence of accidents.
