Analysis of multiphase flow in suction pipes during mud removal in wreck salvage

In the realm of wreck salvage de-sludging endeavors, the interior of a suction conduit for de-sludging presents itself as a multifaceted conundrum involving the flow of multiple phases. This manuscript concentrates on the dynamics of solid-liquid dual-phase flow within conduits, employing a synergistic approach that combines Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Discrete Element Method (DEM). Primarily, the investigation delves into the optimal upsurge rate of sludge suction, the impact of sediment lifting concentration on sludge eradication, and the influence of suction pipe dimensions on the efficiency of sludge extraction. The findings divulge that the efficacy of mud suction ascends in correlation with the upsurge rate, subsequently achieving a state of stability. Additionally, with an increase in the concentration of mud suction, the effectiveness of mud elimination experiences a surge, but subsequently undergoes a decline before culminating in system collapse. The outcomes of this study proffer a valuable reference for the practical implementation of mud extraction from shipwrecks, thereby holding significant implications for the structural enhancement of suction conduits.
