Comparison of accident rates and injury levels in pedestrian traffic accidents at different ages and locations in Hong Kong

Numerous studies have highlighted that pedestrians have a significantly higher death rate and accident severity in traffic accidents compared to drivers and passengers. Therefore, pedestrians must pay heightened attention to their own safety while engaging in traffic behavior. This study aims to analyze traffic accident data in Hong Kong from 2011 to 2021, focusing on the probability and severity of traffic accidents among pedestrians of different ages and locations. The analysis reveals that older pedestrians face a higher probability of traffic accidents and have a greater mortality rate. Additionally, pedestrian accidents in Kowloon are more likely to occur at crossing points. While the trend of pedestrian traffic accidents in other locations is declining, there is an increasing trend of pedestrian traffic accidents on roadways.
