Navigation Risk Assessment of LNG Carrier in the Shanghai section of the Yangtze River

To ensure the navigation safety of LNG Carrier in the Shanghai section of the Yangtze River, the main risk factors affecting navigation were analyzed from the particularity of LNG Carrier and personnel, equipment, management, and environment. The system dynamics method was used to establish the navigation risk management model of the LNG Carrier in the Shanghai section of the Yangtze River, and the interaction relationship between various factors in the system was simulated with the help of Vensim software, and effective management strategies were proposed for the key factors in each subsystem of the system. Based on the results, fog, wind conditions, tides and currents, traffic volume, accompanying tugboats, pilot behavior, VTS monitoring, safety investment, and certification rate are key risk factors for LNG Carrier in the Shanghai section of the Yangtze River. Strategies such as safeguard measures, strengthening VTS monitoring, paying attention to bad weather, reasonably arranging accompanying tugboats, formulating emergency plans for LNG Carrier, and improving pilot boarding and disembarkation procedures can effectively reduce the risk of LNG carrier navigation in the Shanghai section of the Yangtze River.
