Assessment of coastal wind energy resources in Ningbo Zhoushan Port Area based on WRF model and MERRA-2 data

Wind energy presents a promising solution for reducing the carbon footprint in seaports. However, before implementing a wind energy project, it is crucial to assess the wind energy potential in the targeted location. In this study, we utilized the WRF mesoscale numerical model to analyze the wind energy resource potential along the coastline of the Ningbo Zhoushan Port Area. Regional wind conditions were evaluated using data from the MERRA-2 reanalysis. The outcomes revealed an average wind speed of approximately 6.0 m/s in the studied port area, with prevailing wind directions concentrated in the NNE and N sectors. These findings can significantly contribute to the selection and optimal placement of wind turbines in the port area.
