A Novel Ergodic Discrete Difference Equation Cochlear Model: Theoretical Analyses, Reproduction of Mammalian Nonlinear Sound Processing, and Comparison of Implementation

In this brief, a novel electronic circuit cochlear model, the nonlinear dynamics of which is described by an ergodic discrete difference equation is presented. Based on theoretical and numerical analyses, parameter setting methods are proposed so that the model can reproduce typical nonlinear sound processing functions of mammalian cochleae. Furthermore, the presented model is implemented by a field programmable gate array and its operations are validated by experiments. It is shown that the presented model is more hardware-efficient compared to some conventional electronic circuit cochlear models.
