Design of 100 GHz Heterogeneous IPD Integrated Antenna and Bandpass Filter

this paper presents a 100 GHz heterogeneous integrated passive device (IPD) integrated antenna and bandpass filter (BPF). The antenna and BPF were implemented in low loss quartz substrate of IPD and in GaAs substrate IPD with through silicon via (TSV), respectively and were assembled by using flipchip technology. The BPF was comprised by two substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity and inductive aperture and was connected to a three elements quasi-Yagi antenna through a vertical flip-chip transition of Microstrip-to-CPW. The measurement results of the proposed integrated antenna-filter demonstrate that the measured radiation gain at 100 GHz estimated by Friis’ transmission formula is 3.1 dBi including 4.8 dB insertion loss from BPF and transition. The proposed design is well suited for System-in-Package Sub-THz radio front-ends.
