Low profile, High Gain with modified Circular Shaped feed Rectangular DRA

A microstrip feed Dielectric Resonator Antenna (DRA) with a modified circular patch is proposed. It has low profile, wideband, and high gain. The antenna is constructed with a low permittivity rectangular dielectric that is mounted on the top of the substrate. The microstrip feeding and stubs with the suitable dimensions is used to stimulate a significant coupling between the feeding element and DRA. The results show that the gain has been substantially increased and broadside radiating modes are generated by this configuration. The proposed antenna offers 42% impedance bandwidth and peak gain within the impedance bandwidth is 9.1dBi. In addition, the proposed DRA has a low profile and operates in the "X" band, and "Ku" band frequencies which is suitable for various wireless communication systems. Gain enhancing approach along with low profile and wideband for the DRA is demonstrated in this paper.
