Modal Analysis of scattering through Spheroidal Lens Antenna by Sectioning

In this paper scattering of the spheroidal lens antenna is analyzed by slicing the lens into odd number of sections that are spherically symmetric. The contour of each slice is closely approximated by a spherical curvature in height. The field contribution of each section is computed by symmetric and rapid application of partial spherical lens scattering. The field at any point in space is the sum of contribution of individual sections. The incident and scattered fields are directly expressed as a linear combination of spherical vector wave function of each lens section. This method is compared with results obtained from numerical computation using an EM solver (HFSS) for a Spheroidal lens (15 cm × 9 cm) excited by a 2×2 array antenna operating at 10GHz. The results are further validated satisfactorily with measured patterns in anechoic chamber.
