Design and Analysis of mm-wave Dual Band Antenna

In this paper, a study of mm-Wave textile-based antenna for health care applications is presented. The antenna operating in the mm-wave range at 45 and 65GHz is analyzed. A cotton-based textile substrate with a thickness of 1.5mm and with the dimensions 7.0 × 4.5 ×1.5 mm³ is proposed. The radiating patch has a tuning fork-shaped semi-circle of radius 1mm. The cotton substrate is used because it has low relative permittivity and low surface loss with improved impedance bandwidth. The ground plane attached to the bottom of the substrate has slots covering the radiating patch antenna on the opposite side to improve the matching and the impedance bandwidth. The presence of the ground plane minimizes the back radiation to the human body. The mm-Wave antenna operates from (45-65)GHz with a return loss of 14dB at 45GHz and 30dB at 65GHz is observed. The resonating frequency is independent of the length of the antenna and the radiating patch. The tiny cotton-based textile antenna is useful for body-centric communications. The antenna is also used for e-health applications.
