Methodology for In-orbit testing of high throughput spot beam communication payload

With the time, the need for spectrum usage or the bandwidth, among users of satellite communication has increased which resulted in the development of payload in higher frequency band (Ka, Q&V band). Further the need for higher output power from the satellite for mobile internet users also arises. To facilitate these requirements into the satellite, payload with spot beam coverage has been designed. This type of the satellite which provides higher throughput of data are known as High throughput satellite. Before handing over of the payload/transponder to users, comprehensive In-orbit testing (IOT) of the payload is carried out to verify its performance after withstanding vibration and thrust by launch vehicle. This paper presents IOT setup validation and measurement philosophy for in-orbit testing of payload of trending High throughput spot beam satellite.
