A Comparative Study of DNS Root Query Performance Between Continents

DNS root server provides network users with nearby resolution service through anycast root instances widely deployed around the world. This paper proposes a measurement method, which compares and analyzes the latency of root query on six different continents in the world from two aspects: latency distribution of DNS root queries and the latency penalty occurred when a query replied by an overseas root instance. In addition, we locate the relatively best and worst performing country or region in each continent.
