Multi-time Scale Energy Management Strategy for Island Energy System

The island energy system with a seawater desalination system (SDS) and ice-storage air conditioning (IAC) can meet independent islands' electricity, fresh water, and cooling needs. For the problem of how to economically dispatch island energy systems with multiple types of energy sources and controllable loads, this paper proposes a multi-time scale energy management strategy. Firstly, the island energy dispatching model is established, considering the characteristics of power sources and controllable loads, and especially considering the constraints of continuous operation of the system, which makes the system return to the initial state at the end of the day. Then, A multi-time scale energy management strategy consisting of "day-ahead + intraday + real-time" with the objective of minimizing the total cost is proposed. According to the forecast data with different uncertainties, the scheduling plan is gradually determined using the day-ahead and intraday scheduling strategies. For unpredictable fluctuations, a real-time adjustment strategy based on the fuzzy inference system (FIS) is used to adjust the scheduling plan in real-time. The case studies demonstrate that the energy management strategy proposed in this paper can effectively improve the renewable energy consumption capacity and reduce the operating cost.
