Axially Asymmetric Design for Additive Manufacturing of Synchronous Reluctance Machines

This paper presents a design and analysis tool, developed for the investigation of axially asymmetric design topologies for additively manufactured electrical machines. The process is explicitly adapted for synchronous reluctance machines with individually adaptable portions and the possibility of opting for various design criteria. The paper demonstrates the working of the design and analysis tool by presenting sample results for a selected set of design criteria, showcasing the interdependence of various geometrical, electromagnetic and output variables. A thorough investigation of the interdependent variables, to study and establish better control over compromising parameters is proposed for future work.
