Studies of Mutual Inductance Suppression of Dual Winding Dual Magnet Machines

Dual winding dual magnet machines (DWDM) are a novel flux modulated machine with the merits of high torque density and high fault-tolerance. The obvious feature is that armature windings are placed on both sides of the stator and rotor. This paper studies the mutual inductance between stator and rotor windings of DWDM by theoretical analysis and finite element analysis (FEA). First, the operation principle of the motor and the negative effect of mutual inductance are discussed. By analyzing the given inductance expression, several slot/pole combinations are proposed and compared. A mutual inductance ratio reduction method based on the optimal split ratio is proposed. The results show that the mutual inductance ratio is reduced by 75% compared to the original model.
