Abstract:
This work presents a systematic approach to model and characterize the electrical and mechanical parameters of permanent magnet DC (PMDC) machines. For high-performance applications requiring enhanced control performance, the interdependence among the parameters plays a key role. This work illustrates the interdependence and the challenges arising due to this coupling and provides parameter estimation methods to overcome them. Additionally, the non-linearly varying brush drop is also modeled and characterized in this paper. Experimental results are conducted on a 250 W PMDC motor to further validate the proposed methods.
