Energy Sustainability Analysis of Data Center Based on Double Cycle System with Air Free Cooling Technology

Double cycle system with refrigerant-pump and vapor compression is a new refrigeration system that uses natural cold source to dissipate heat. It is good with lower cost, more reliable refrigeration performance, smaller space occupation, easier installation, and has attracted extensive concern in the context of global carbon neutrality. The refrigeration strategy of double cycle system is to turn on the compressor for refrigeration during the periods with high outdoor temperature, turn off compressor during the periods with low outdoor temperature, and use the refrigerant-pump to obtain the cold source directly through outdoor environment, to achieve the energy conservation and CO
2
reduction. Through comparative experiments, the feasibility of application with double cycle system is specifically discussed, while the energy conservation effect of the double cycle system compared with the traditional compressor system is discussed. Through the control variable experiment, the relationship between the energy-saving effect of the double cycle system and the IT load factor, and the geographical environment is deeply studied. At the end of the paper, the potential of energy-saving and CO
2
emissions reduction of double cycle system in China is calculated and analyzed.
