A Circularly Periodic Multi-band High-Impedance Surface Integrated with a Spiral Antenna

A circularly periodic multi-band High Impedance Surface (HIS) is integrated with a spiral antenna and performance is demonstrated in three bands (centered at 1.375 GHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz) with simulation. The design procedure for the multi-band HIS is presented, for each sub-band frequency. Zero phase response for each sub-band design frequency is obtained by stimulating the HIS with a concentric circular waveguide port. Then, a spiral antenna is placed at a height of
$\mathbf{0}.\mathbf{02}\boldsymbol{\lambda}$
above the HIS. The full antenna structure achieved good multiband performance in terms of return loss, bandwidth, radiation patterns and gain.
