A Frequency-Reconfigurable Filtenna for UWB and 5G Sub-6 GHz Band Applications

This work presents a solution for a reconfigurable filtenna with three operation modes: ultrawideband (from 690 MHz to 6 GHz), 3.5 GHz (from 3.3 to 3.71 GHz), and 700 MHz (from 705 to 773 MHz). These bandwidths have large applications on 5G sub-6 GHz. The structure is built on an FR4 substrate using a bio-inspired antenna and filters based on fractal and defected ground structure (DGS). The proposed model was simulated, and a prototype was manufactured and measured. The simulation results were very congruent with the proposed operation, and the prototype presented relatively good coherence with these simulations.
