Symmetric Reflector/Absorber with Reconfigurable Low-Pass Capability

A reflector/absorber with a reconfigurable low-pass capability is proposed utilizing a multilayered structure enabled with PIN diodes. First, an equivalent circuit model is incrementally developed to analyze performance tradeoffs and inform design choices. Then, a simulation model is created using a simple series-RC lossy patch-type geometry that is positioned between two identical reconfigurable grids that are electronically controlled through PIN diodes. The proposed reflector/absorber can be used for advanced antenna applications, such as where reconfigurable radomes with multifunctional capabilities are needed.
