Adaptive Mesh Refinement Strategy for Solving Electromagnetic Radiation and Scattering

In radiation and scattering problem, when perfectly matched layer (PML) is adopted as the truncating boundary for the infinite region exterior, the global adaptive mesh refinement (GAMR) will deteriorate the properties of the finite element (FE) matrix and increase the difficulty of solving. This paper presents a local adaptive mesh refinement (LAMR) method, which only refine the tetrahedral mesh in the non-PML computing domain and guarantees the properties of the matrix. Based on the least square method, a single tetrahedron is regarded as the minimum implementation unit for constructing posteriori error (PE) estimation, which avoids data interaction with other tetrahedrons. Since the required information is relatively concentrated, the problem of special handling at the boundary is avoided. Numerical results are presented and compared with GAMR method to illustrate the performance of the proposed method.
