Double-Ridge Horn with Sinusoidally-Modulated Profile Enabled by 3D-Printing

The performance impacts of sinusoidally-modulating the profile of a millimeter-wave ridged horn antenna operating from 36–90 GHz are studied herein. Specific parameters of the geometric modification and their effects on the far-field and impedance performance of the antenna are shown. Simulated results indicate that the proposed modulation can improve the beam efficiency and radiation patterns of the horn above 85 GHz while also extending the maximum usable frequency up to 95 GHz.
