Phased Array Scan-Widening Meta-Radome with Low Polarization Sensitivity

A meta material radome for planar phased arrays is introduced with the capability of widening the corresponding scan range. The planar phased array with this meta-radome becomes well-matched while scanning in the H-plane up to 65 degrees and a wide range of diagonal planes up to 80 degrees. This is because of the proposed meta-radome structure which shows less sensitivity to the polarization of antenna-radiated fields. This meta-radome can widely decrease scan mismatch loss over most of the scanning planes of the phased array.
