Comparative Analysis of QCTO Approaches for Luneburg Lens Antenna Design

A performance comparison of two quasi-conformal transformation optics (QCTO) design approaches for a flattened Luneburg lens antenna is presented. Two different sets of boundary conditions are applied in the QCTO transformation and we observe notably differing permittivity distributions, directivity, and beamwidth from the design. One result exhibits a higher maximum permittivity requirement but improved directivity and beamwidth. One case is studied here (a planar cut of the 2D circular lens at 144°), the two designs require maximum permittivity of 3.7 and 8.86 and 2 dBi difference in directivity.
