Design and Optimization of a Wide-Band Quad-Ridged Polarizer for Satellite Communications

This paper presents design and optimization of a wide-band quad-ridged waveguide polarizer using irises for satellite communications. The design steps of the polarizer and the parameters used for optimization are explained. The designed polarizer overcomes the conventional bandwidth limit and covers about 30% bandwidth from 21.4 to 29.3 GHz. The electrical performance of the polarizer is analyzed using the commercial electromagnetic simulation software, CST Studio Suite. The performance of the final design shows that insertion loss is <0.2 dB, return loss is >23 dB, and the phase difference is smaller than 10° as a reference point by 90° in the overall band.
