Adaptive Control for DC-DC Converter to Operate on Critical Conduction Mode

DC-DC converter is a power electronic converter that converts DC voltage from one level to another. The critical/boundary conduction mode (BCM) is popular for DC-DC converters due to its advantages in efficiency, EMI performance, and reduced component stress.This paper proposes a novel control algorithm that maximizes the efficiency of synchronous DC-DC converters operating in critical conduction mode by using a duty cycle modulation technique to reduce switching losses and improve transient response. Results from MATLAB simulations demonstrate significant improvements in efficiency and transient response compared to traditional BCM control algorithms. This proposed control algorithm has the potential to enhance the performance of DC-DC converters across many industries for low power application.
