Electric Vehicle with Regenerative Braking Model using MATLAB - Simulink

The electric vehicle (EV) makes it possible for eco-friendly travel and is more powerful and fuel efficient than a gasoline car. The extensive qualities of EV can be presented through simulation before it is manufactured. To use MATLAB-Simulink to model the performance of electric vehicles (EVs) with regenerative braking and lithium-ion batteries, various subsystems such as the electric motor, battery pack, and regenerative braking system must be designed and integrated. The electric motor is modelled in Simulink using the Permanent Magnet Direct Current (PMDC) motor, which allows the torque and speed characteristics of the motor to be approximated. Lithium-Ion cells are then used to represent the battery pack, enabling the calculation of the battery’s condition of charge and voltage over time. Simulink representation of regenerative braking using an H-bridge configuration can provide a simulation environment for studying system behavior and its impact on electric vehicle performance (EVs). The motor can act as a generator during braking thanks to the H-bridge arrangement, transforming kinetic energy into electrical energy that can be stored in the battery. The Simulink model can include the H-bridge, motor, battery, and other powertrain components and simulate their interactions under various driving conditions. Additionally, a driver prototype is developed to control the vehicle’s speed and simulate human driving habits.
