Voltage Regulation for Load Balancing Using OLTC Transformer

The power system is always not in steady conditions, particularly on the Distribution side which is deregulated structure type. The Deregulated Distribution System (DDS) has a verge of constant occurrence of either voltage dip or swell or both simultaneously. Unbalance in loading patterns in the phases is also one of the major reasons for unbalanced voltages in DDS. This needs a constant check and has to be regulated immediately so as to avoid the occurrence of any system failure event also it results in degradation of Power Quality (PQ). In this paper voltage regulation using On-Load Tap Changers (OLTC) is presented. OLTC is a prominent technology that is widely and fundamentally adopted as the first step of voltage regulation. OLTC balances the loads by instantaneous switching action carried out by tap changers. In this work, simultaneous voltage sag and swell is created which is taken care off well with tap settings of OLTC.
