DECOR: A Compressor/Decompressor Framework for Modern GPU

DECOR, a Compressor and DeComprossor Engine for modern GPU based on variable Golomb-Rice coding is proposed. DECOR divides color data during rendering pipeline to fine granularity, such as 256 bytes unit. Based on the fine granularity, the Compressor Engine of DECOR will compress the data with a hardware friendly manner. DECOR can decompress the compressed data in an efficient way by decompressing from dual-end side of the streaming out compressed data. We conduct evaluation of DECOR on popular benchmark which used to test GPU performance, and the result show that DECOR can achieve a higher compression ratio compared with LZ77.
