Miniaturized Patch Antenna with Pi Shaped Slots for Beidou, GPS and GLONASS Receivers

A compact low profile miniaturized circularly polarized patch antenna is proposed for BDS-2 B1, GPS L1 and GLONASS receivers. The dual fed square patch antenna is miniaturized to a dimension of 25 x 25 x 6.1 mm3 by loading the antenna with symmetric pi slots facing each other along with a diagonal slot at the center. The developed antenna is invented on a ARLON 1000 substrate having thickness of 6.1mm with a dielectric constant of 10. The prototype measurement is carried out in a 8 x 8 x 4m3 anechoic chamber and the calculated and the simulated outcomes are in positive contract with each other. The developed antenna offers an axial ratio bandwidth of 3.5% over 1561MHz, 1575MHz and 1602MHzand the maximum efficiency measured is 71%. The miniaturized antenna is suitable for portable navigation GPS receivers.
