A Novel MIMO Channel Model for Underground Mine Communications

As a typical underground scenario, underground mine has many unique channel characteristics. This paper focuses on the channel modeling for underground mines and the study of statistical properties under four commercial frequencies communication (455 MHz, 915 MHz, 2.45 GHz, and 5.8 GHz). In this paper, a three-dimensional (3D) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) geometry-based stochastic model (GBSM) for under-ground mines is proposed, which considers surface roughness and human blockage. Important statistical properties are derived and studied, including temporal autocorrelation function (TACF), spatial cross-correlation function (SCCF), channel capacity, and channel gain. Simulation results show that with the increase of surface roughness, the correlation of channel is enhanced, and channel capacity is decreased. Besides, human blockage can decrease the channel gain significantly.
