A New Way of the Wideband Coherent Signals DOA Estimation on the Uniform Circular Array

Nowadays, direction of arrival estimation (DOA) is one of the hot research areas in array signal processing. Its applications span across various fields, such as radar detection, sonar detection, wireless communication, and the others. Under this background, there are numerous algorithms with high resolution have been suggested to provide solutions for different scenarios. In our work, we presented a new way to estimate the DOA. The new way is available for the wideband signals, and is based on the existing methods such as the coherent signal-subspace method (CSM) and multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. The CSM algorithm decomposes the received signal into frequency components and focuses them to the same subspace through focus transform. Among those types of arrays the uniform circular array (UCA) has a unique conjugate symmetric structure. Using this symmetric structure, symmetric sub-arrays can be constructed for solving the phase ambiguity problems. Then we can reconstruct the the received data matrix based on the two kinds of conjugate subarrays. Then we can use the classical MUSIC algorithm, and the DOA can be estimated perfectly. In the end, we show the simulation results, the simulation results can demonstrate the new way has better performance than the conventional algorithms, especially in low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) conditions.
