Low Sidelobe Integrated Radar and Communication Shared Waveform Design

To reduce the transmit beampattern sidelobe level of integrated radar and communication waveform under the multi-antenna system, a low sidelobe integrated radar and communication shared waveform design method is proposed. First, the virtual weighting coefficients for radar and communication waveforms are determined. These coefficients are then used to create an integrated transmit matrix by combining the weighted sum of radar and communication waveforms. By utilizing this transmit matrix, radar and communication waveforms with low beampattern sidelobes can be simultaneously synthesized in various directions. The optimal weighting coefficients is obtained by solving an optimization problem. The target of this optimization problem is to minimize the beampattern sidelobe energy. The constraints are to control the beampattern mainlobe level and the mutual interference level of the radar and communication. This problem is efficiently worked out by alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm. Several simulation experiments are performed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed waveform design method in achieving integrated radar and communication waveforms with low beampattern sidelobes.
