Extended Abstract: Emerging Tech Comm Skill Sets: UX, Content Strategy, and Instructional Design

Recently the technical and professional communication (TPC) field has witnessed the growth of defined sub-fields including user experience, content strategy, and instructional design. Boasting their own distinct skill sets and workflows, our panel is a discussion of what makes these sub-fields unique as compared to more traditional roles like technical writer and technical editor. We ground our discussion in an ongoing analysis of a corpus of over 20,000 job ads collected by one of our members. Ultimately, we discuss what these job ads can tell us about these emerging sub-fields, and what they can’t.
