A Rare-Earth-Free Linear Motor Replacing Coreless Linear Motors with Neodymium Sintered Magnets

Neodymium sintered magnets are often used in coreless linear motors for miniaturization and improvement of thrust force density. Since using Nd sintered magnets, which contain rare earth elements, has a problem of material risk, it is required to make them rare-earth-free. In this research, we have developed a rare-earth-free linear motor that can replace coreless linear motors with Nd sintered magnets. The developed motor has higher thrust force density than the coreless motor and acceptable cogging force characteristics.
