Experimental Verification of Increasing Torque Density by Magnetic Interaction in 500 N•m class IPM-type Magnetic-Geared Motor

Magnetic-geared motors (MGMs) can achieve high torque density without mechanical contact. Although interior permanent magnet (IPM) type MGMs have higher efficiency than conventional surface permanent magnet (SPM) type MGMs, a permanent magnet motor part and a magnetic gear part magnetically influence each other. In a previous paper, the magnetic interaction in IPM-type MGM was fully clarified. If the magnetic interaction is effectively used, then the torque density of IPM-type MGM may increase without additional magnets. This paper presents an experimental verification of increasing torque density by the magnetic interaction.
