Magnetic nanopillars in self-organized magneto-dielectric nanocomposite thin films

This paper presents the magnetic properties of perpendicularly aligned magnetic nanopillars in magneto-dielectric nanocomposite films fabricated by tandem sputtering methods with an optimized substrate rotation speed. Since the film consists of self-assembled Co nano-pillars about 2.3 nm in diameter separated by Cr
x
O matrix of 2.2 nm-spacing, Co
43
-Cr
16
O
41
film exhibits perpendicular magnetic anisotropy attributed to the shape anisotropy of pillar shape of Co. These self-assembled nanopillar fabrication process may potentially assist the selective formation of perpendicular magnetic random-access memory architecture.
