Electromagnetic Design and Analysis of Low Speed High Torque Motor with Composite Rotor and Double Stator

This paper presents a novel composite rotor double stator low speed high torque motor (CRDS-LSHTM). The rotor of the novel motor is composed of synchronous reluctance and surface permanent magnet. The salient feature of the composite rotor is the separation of permanent magnet torque and reluctance torque, which brings flexible control to the permanent magnet torque and reluctance torque components of the motor. The electromagnetic performance of the motor is simulated and analyzed by finite element method. The results show that the novel motor not only has the characteristics of high torque density and small torque ripple, but also saves permanent magnet materials and achieves the purpose of saving non-renewable resources.
