Effect of co-field flow velocity, temperature and dissolved gases on the direct breakdown voltage of transformer oil using point-to-plane electrodes

This paper presents results on the effect of enforced co-field oil flow velocity and of temperature on the breakdown voltage of transformer oil using point-to-plane electrodes. Tests were carried out on degassed oil and oxygen-saturated oil for negative and positive point polarities over the temperature range 20/spl deg/C - 85/spl deg/C and flow velocities from 0.0 to 170 cm/s and for two gap lengths: 400 /spl mu/m and 1 mm.
