The Development of A Map-Based Application for Enhancing the Wayfinding in Night Market

Night markets are usually crowded and highly complicated in terms of spatial layout, making it challenging for visitors to navigate and find what they are looking for. This study is to develop a map-based application for addressing the difficulties faced by visitors when navigating night markets. This innovative application uses a map-based interface, integrated with the data of mobile positioning data (MPD) and space syntax (SS), to provide three different types of wayfinding information: 1. the locations of shops, stalls, and other amenities; 2. real-time crowd density; and 3. spots that can potentially cause disorientation. The application helps visitors plan their route, avoid crowded areas and enhance wayfinding experience, thus increasing the overall enjoyment of their visit to the night market. With an easy-to-use interface and the support of empirical evidence, this application not only can provide a novel solution to wayfinding problems in night markets, but also can enhance the visitors’ satisfaction and further lead to better business outcomes.
