Block of a Master Oscillator for the High-Frequency System of «Sibir-2» Accelerator-Storage Complex from Kurchatov Institute

The Sibir-2 accelerator-storage complex is currently undergoing a large-scale modernization. The purpose of the modernization is to increase the operating time of the complex “on experiment”, as well as to increase the operating current in the main ring. As part of the modernization, a new booster ring and linear accelerator are being developed. Accordingly, a new high-frequency system is being designed. One of the important modules of the HF system is the master oscillator. This paper deals with the design of a reference oscillator based on a phase locked loop system. The system will consist of 2 main sub-blocks: a synthesizer and a voltage-controlled oscillator. The synthesizer provides most of the output frequency parameters, voltage-controlled oscillator provides the generation of the output signal directly. These blocks will be made as two separate printed circuit boards to eliminate mutual influence on each other. Features of the system are the possibility of connecting an external reference signal of a more stable frequency; control is carried out through the Ethernet network; flexible adjustment of the output signal frequency tuning speed. In this article the design of the synthesizer's main components and the results of the prototype are described.
