Unmanned Aerial Vehicles with a Hybrid Propulsion System, as an Analogue of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles with Internal Combustion Engines

The article briefly discusses unmanned aerial vehicles by the type of propulsion system. Electric vehicles have high mobility. But they are limited in range and flight time. Options of an unmanned aerial vehicle with an internal combustion engine, on the contrary, have high rates of flight time and flight range. But they have worse mobility and cannot fly in crowded places, in buildings for safety. A hybrid propulsion system can combine high fight range and flight time with good mobility. The article considered a fairly heavy unmanned aerial vehicle weighing 185 kilograms. During the work, it was revealed that such a hybrid unmanned aerial vehicle will have a 25 percent shorter flight range and flight time than an analogue with an internal combustion engine. In combination with a more complex structure, it is economically disadvantageous. Therefore, small and medium-sized vehicles can be considered as unmanned aerial vehicles with a hybrid propulsion system. It is the weight of which reaches 50 kilograms. It is an option with a quick-removed internal combustion engine. Such an unmanned aerial vehicle can operate as an all-electric or as a hybrid vehicle.
