Prototype of the Forearm Muscle EIT Generator with Automatically Switchable Sensors for the Prosthesis Control System

This paper presents the wearable electrical impedance tomography generator with automatically switchable sensors, which can be used as a component in the motion control system of the hand prosthesis. The system generates a probing signal and records the change in the impedance of muscle fibers, depending on the movement of the user's hand in real-time. The impedance was read from the surface of the location of large extensor and flexor forearm muscles. During experiments the electrical impedance for 3 grips were measured. This impedance data show dependence of the impedance on the type of motion. Our automatic switching system between sensors helped to avoid their mutual influence on each other. The construction of the generator and sensor is described in this article. Authors give circuits, characteristics of the created device and impedance analysis outcomes as a result. Based on the experiments, a conclusion was made about the possibility of using such a device in prosthesis.
