Mobile Application as a Tool of Teaching Chinese Characters

This article analyzed and explained the need for a mobile application to teach Chinese characters to students majoring in Chinese. The relevance arises from the fact that despite many decades of pedagogical research, the problem of teaching Chinese characters is still relevant. The development of the mobile application is suggested to be based on the conscious and personal approaches in pedagogical science. The key characteristics of the mobile application are given, and it is concluded that the didactic tasks can be solved by creating this application. Such disputable issue as including teaching traditional forms of characters or their exception from the educational process is mentioned and their vitally important role in teaching etymology is defined. The ethical problem of ‘cruel’ origin of Chinese characters is also considered in the article and possible solution were suggested. Future research could focus on the creation of vocabulary entries based on the app.
